Andrew took ill with Meningococcal Meningitis and Septicaemia in April 2006. He bravely survived but unfortunately suffered amputation of the forefoot on both legs, as well as several fingers. He endured many skin graft operations on his legs and arms over the next 2 years but remained very positive throughout and even learned to walk again.
Sadly and tragically, Andrew aged 25 years, died in October 2008, after 2 1/2 years of bravely trying to recover from this terrible disease, which finally caught up with him.
Andrew was a gentle giant of a boy who lived for rugby, both as a player and a coach. He just loved his local club, Whitecraigs, who supported him, endlessly through this difficult time. His work as a rugby coach took him to schools and clubs both locally and nationally. He was a people person, and made a great number of friends through the sport, even some pals at an international level. He was never happier than speaking to or helping others, no matter what their age. He cared more for others than himself, giving time to coach asylum seekers, running Summer Camps for children or helping at Spring Harvest.
He was lovingly adored, is sadly missed by all his friends and family, but most definitely not forgotten. A loving son, a loyal and caring twin brother and true friend to all.
